Gardening Proverbs and Poems
This collection of gardening proverbs, poems, quotes, sayings and songs is assembled as a means of inspiration, insight and encouragement for my fellow gardeners. Vegetable gardening and other forms of horticultural pursuits have been the delight of humankind for thousands of years. It's no wonder, gardening is enjoyable and it provides food for the table. Our writings have recorded our enjoyment with passion and style. Even the founding fathers of this country were enthusiastic gardeners. And, they left us with a wealth of garden sayings that I find of great interest. World leaders, community leaders, and even humble neighborhood gardeners have gardening quotes to share, if you're curious about what they have to say and you listen closely. And, let's not forget poets and song writers. They have been important contributors of gardening poems that stimulate our imagination and draw comparisons between gardening and other aspects of our lives. There are even gardening songs that help us "whistle while we work." I suppose I need to mention that there are gardening hymns as well. Thanksgiving and harvests are themes that come to mind. So, perhaps I can get us to "come rejoicing" as we bring in the sheaves. Here is the very popular In the Garden hymn by Charles Austin Miles. Just think of this portion of the site as being "high touch" whereas the main body of content is for the most part "high tech." Enjoy a moment or two away from the technical aspects of gardening and embrace the romantic aspects of what we pursue. If you know of quotes or sayings, or you have some of your own, please let me know and I'll be glad to consider them for inclusion here. May the gardening proverbs you find on these pages lead you to be more inspired in your vegetable gardening, and more appreciative of what gardening in general has to offer.
