About this site

This website is all about providing quality information related to vegetable gardening in North America. It has a decided focus on vegetables because they hold out opportunity for most of us to become relatively independent of the grocery store.

Vegetable gardening is also important because we have much more control over the type of vegetables, specific varieties, and the environment in which they grow. We have no such control at the local grocer.

That means, we can grow organic seed with simple and clean organic methods, and we'll know exactly what is in and on that portion of our food supply. With the ever increasing encroachment of genetically modified organisms and chemical farming methods, we have plenty of reason to advocate control over our food supply so we know what it is we are consuming.

It's quite a bit of work to create and maintain a site like this, and it's very satisfying to know that it's helping others. Comments like the one below that I received from Gale are very encouraging indeed:

Excellent site! I read it all. You are either very gifted or you put a lot of work into it. Either way, I appreciate what you have put together.

This site is also about cold frames, row covers and greenhouses to support vegetable gardening interests in dry and windswept areas such as where I make my home - the prairie just outside of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Gardening structures like greenhouses also allow us to defend against torrential downpours and hail that can wipe out our gardens, and critters that can munch away at all our hard work.

So, this site is really to support you and your interests in vegetable gardening, no matter where you choose to do it. I'd like to help you create a healthful bounty of great variety for fresh eating as well a canning, freezing and dehydrating.

My objectives are to provide you with information, resources and insights from my experience to help you be successful. I'll also include selected insights from other experts. If you have suggestions for content, I'm all ears. Just use the contact form.

This site was launched on February, 2009 and contains 35 pages.

Happy vegetable gardening!

Clair
